ABOUT THIS LESSON

Lesson Five: Sixes is the last lesson using the TRICK STRATEGY. (Color-Coding for Flipbooks & Posters= PURPLE)

The Half-Whole Trick taught in this lesson works anytime 6 is multiplied by an even number and allows for quick recall of many Sixes facts. This trick often amazes parents and teachers as well!

Students see how closely connected the Multiplication & Division facts are! This power printable enables students to simplify the mental process of dividing by connecting to what they already know.

Logical Links (.pdf)

Students practice linking the Zeroes & Ones Multiplication facts to their Division counterparts as known multiplication facts are linked to equations with missing factors. The concept of the "missing factor" is then connected to the corresponding quotient.

Students create fact families with the Zeroes & Ones Multiplication and Division facts.

Lesson 5 is the first lesson to include only THREE focus facts (rather than SIX). This is consistent throughout the remainder of the Factivation!® for Multiplication program.

Post the focus facts (6X4, 6X6, & 6X8) in the classroom and refer to them throughout the day, emphasizing the Half-Whole trick, and having students call out the product.

After completing Lesson 5, monitor progress using the Mid-Program Assessment. Revisit any needed lessons before moving on to Lesson 6.
